There’s not really anything new to say this month – Toby and Gabe still fight and bicker all the time. I think it’s actually ramped up a notch now Gabe has learnt the word ‘mine’! But having said that there are more moments where they play nicely together, or they have a sweet moment.

Toby loves making Gabe laugh, and is pretty good at doing it, and Gabe still just wants to do everything his brother does. He will literally copy everything Toby does – the other day Toby slipped going downstairs – he just ended up sitting down on the top step but sat down quite hard and hurt his bum a little bit. Gabe who was coming downstairs after him then proceeded to sit down on the step and say ‘ow’ too!

I’m still holding out hope that as Gabe starts to talk more and more and becomes more capable physically they will be able to play together more. Toby did say to me yesterday though that Gabe is his best friend in our family. I mean there’s only the four of us but still, it was very cute.

Of course everything will probably change in a couple of months when Toby is at school and Gabe gets more time with me on his own. I think Gabe is really going to miss his big brother, even if they do spend half their time arguing at the moment!
One thing is for sure these two definitely love each other like only brothers can. And I know I say it every month but I can’t wait to see how their relationship continues to develop.

Last week I published the first two weeks of my weight loss diaries – this post covers the days since then. It’s a bit of a monster update but I wanted to bring you up to date so I can carry on from here…
24th June 2017 (Day 26)
I’ve been doing Shake That Weight for a week and a half so far and it’s going quite well. I lost 3lb the first week which isn’t quite as much as I was hoping for but I think it wasn’t as dramatic as sometimes because I was already following quite a low calorie diet. I’ve been sticking to it pretty well – a couple of bites of the kids’ food here and there but certainly not falling off the wagon standards.
I’m not feeling hungry any more either but still getting that feeling of ‘I want to eat something’. I know that’s just emotional and not real hunger but I’m finding having one of the STW snacks or even just a couple of grapes helps.
I also started doing so yoga on Tuesday – I’m just following some videos on YouTube but I’m really enjoying it. I’ve done it every evening since I started. I’ve also found some kid’s yoga on YouTube that we’ve done a couple of times – Toby and Gabe seemed to enjoy it so I’m going to try and keep that up with them as well.
On the whole I’m feeling quite positive about it all at the moment. We’ll see what Tuesday’s weigh in brings but I feel like I’m really ready to make the right changes this time…we shall see.

Well, after last week’s post when Gabe had slept through for two nights in a row, he actually managed two more…which is the most he has slept in his whole life! Unfortunately he ended the week with a temperature and normal service has been resumes as far as sleep goes but at least we know he can do it and I’m sure he will again. Until then I’m going to accept it and wait – that’s all I can do really!
Yesterday we went on the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway with Barry’s mum and dad. It’s a steam train in the Lake District and we had a lovely day out (mostly – days out with our two are never entirely stress-free!) Gabe seemed to have recovered from whatever was wrong with him at the end of last week and was remarkably un-whingey for most of the day. Read more

My parents have both been involved with the Scout Association since before I was born. My dad was a Scout leader for years, and that meant I first when camping when I was 10 weeks old! All our family holidays when I was a child were either camping, or later caravanning holidays and I have such brilliant memories of them all. I would love for our boys to have the same experiences and that is why we are planning a family camping holiday for this summer.
So when I was young, as well as several Scout and Guide camps every year, we also spent weekends camping in the UK and we were lucky enough to spend a month in France and Spain every summer. We got a caravan when I was about 7 or 8. But even after we got the caravan my brother and I would sleep either a small tent or in the caravan awning. Read more
Gabe is 22 and a half months old, and I don’t want to shout to loudly about it, but his sleep seems to finally be improving. In fact as I write this he has slept all night, in his own bed, until at least 6:30 am for four nights in a row! Unfortunately he didn’t make it to five nights but this is very much new territory for Gabe. Everyone expects a lot of sleepless nights when they have a new baby, but when that baby gets to 6, 12, then 18 months old and they still aren’t sleeping it gets harder and harder, so how do you cope if your toddler doesn’t sleep?
I’m going to start this post by saying I only have one piece of advice to give you, and I pretty much guarantee it will work. It may not be the advice that you want to hear but after having two babies who became toddlers who didn’t sleep it is the only thing I know that will help. Read more
It’s that time of week when another blogger is going to be sharing their childhood memories. This week’s Remembering Childhood comes from Hayley from Devon Mama.
Which decade were you born in?
I was born in the 80’s, 1986 to be precise. I find it strange to think that my child was born in an entirely different millennium to me!
What is your earliest memory? How old were you?
My earliest memory is playing in the front room of our first family home. My best friend lived two doors down the road and so we were always at each others houses. I remember dancing along to Kylie’s ‘Locomotion’ with her around the lounge, obviously we knew all the moves. I’d have been about four then.
What was your favourite toy at 5 years old? At 10?

So a small introduction first… the day after my 39th birthday I embarked on my plan to be fit by 40. The first stage is to lose the 2 and a half stone of extra weight I’m carrying. I don’t just want to be thinner though, I want to be fitter and more healthy too. When I started just over a month ago I started writing a diary for myself. Not every day and just a few notes on how I was feeling, how things were going and basically just something to encourage me to be mindful and stay on track. I wasn’t initially planning on publishing it on my blog but I’m a month in and I thought it might actually be a good idea. There’ll a couple of catch up posts first, so here are the start of my weight loss diaries, Days 0 -13…
29th May 2017 // Day 0
Finished the last of the birthday Maltesers and birthday cake, the diet/ lifestyle change starts tomorrow. Starting weight 13st 3lb. Read more
I feel like a broken record with these posts sometimes but the weeks just go so fast and we don’t often do anything very exciting!
Toby enjoyed his second settling session at school on Thursday, now he just has to wait 8 weeks before he actually starts properly. Only 8 weeks though, and my baby is going to be starting school – he’s not even four until next week!
On Saturday my parents were part of the team organising the National Scout Car Races – it’s something they have been involved with since I was tiny but I haven’t been myself for years. This year it was back in Blackpool so we went along with the boys to have a look. Read more
I originally wrote this post back in 2015 but I’ve had quite a few friends recently who have had abnormal smear test results requiring further investigation or treatment and so I though it might be worth sharing it again...
I recently got a letter advising me it was time for me to have another smear test. As I’m pregnant at the moment I have to wait until three months after the baby is born but I wanted to write a bit about why I was being called for a smear test just 6 months after I had the last one, and what had happened in between. I know this isn’t the kind of thing everyone likes to talk (or read) about but I hope that sharing my experience might encourage other women to make sure they get regular smear tests, and so set their minds at rest if the results do come back as abnormal. The end of June? Seriously, how did that happen?? The month has flown so fast that I can’t even think what we’ve been doing. We had two weekends when Toby was at several birthday parties for his friends from nursery, and we’ve had a few weekends at home to try and give Barry a chance to do some work in the garden. Oh and I had an interview for a teaching job that I didn’t get.
Other than that it’s been a fairly quiet month, with not much to report. Toby turns four in a couple of weeks and as I write this he’s having his second transition session at school. He seemed to really enjoy it last week (until he fell over and grazed his knee on the way home) so hopefully he’ll have had a good time again. The trouble then is going to be explaining that he doesn’t actually go to school properly for another 8 weeks! Read more
