Fit by 40 // How did I do?

On my 40th birthday night away

Last year, just after I turned 39 I was pretty miserable in my body, and with myself. I wrote a sort of poem and then decided to do something about it. Over the last 12 months I have written lots of updates about my ‘Fit by 40’ progress but now I actually am 40 (well 40 and a month now) how did I actually do in my mission? Read more

If you’re looking for simple ways to turn pennies into pounds, you’ve come to the right place. Read more

My likes and loves // #LittleLoves May & June 2018

Me in my new Lucy & Yak dungarees

A few weeks ago I realised it had got so far into June that it really wasn’t worth me writing a May likes and loves post so I just decided to wait and combine the two months into one post! Since my last post we’ve had my birthday and half term, and now we’re only a few weeks off the summer holidays! Time is absolutely flying at the moment (which is probably why I’m not keeping up with all the blogging I want to be doing!) Read more

Spend less on school uniforms

Toby looking super smart in his school uniform

School clothes can be one of the most expensive school supplies. Given that kids are constantly growing and prone to losing and damaging things, it’s easy for a parent to fork out thousands on school clothes throughout a kid’s education. Fortunately, there are tricks to spend less. Here are a few ways to cut the costs of school clothing. Read more

Becoming a work at home mum // A decision

Looking on the bright side - trying to think positively about pelvic organ prolapse

As some of you may know before I had Gabe I was working as a Modern Languages teacher – I taught French and Spanish in secondary schools before we moved back to the north west from Scotland. Had we stayed in Scotland I probably would have gone back to work after my maternity leave finished when Gabe was one. But moving house changed things, and we’re now two years on and I still haven’t gone back to teaching. It’s seems it’s time to make a decision. Read more

Fit by 40 // 23 days to go

Fit by 40 weight loss diaries

Last year, just after my 39th birthday I decided I had had enough of being overweight, unfit, tired and generally pretty fed up with my body and how I felt about myself. I even wrote a poem about it! I’ve been writing various updates about my ‘Fit by 40’ mission for the last year, and so with just 23 days until the big 4-0 I thought I’d give you another little update about where I’m at just now. A little bit about me

A little bit about me

The lovely Lauren from Scrapbook Blog tagged me in this quick ‘about me’ Q & A post ages ago but with one thing and another I’m only just getting round to writing it. I’ve been rather lacking in inspiration on the blogging front lately (I’ve been writing this blog for four and a half years now, it happens sometimes) so answering a few questions about myself is a relatively easy way to get my typing fingers moving again. Afternoon tea at The Clifton Arms, Lytham // 18 for 2018

Afternoon tea - one of my 18 for 2018

At the beginning of the year I wrote a post all about my goals and plans for 2018. I came up with 18 things that I wanted to do or achieve this year, and one of them was to have afternoon tea. A lot of people who read the post seemed amazed that I had got to the age of 39 and never had afternoon tea. What is perhaps even more surprising is that my mum had managed to get to 75 and never had afternoon tea either! So we decided it was time we did something about it! Read more
