A little bit about me

The lovely Lauren from Scrapbook Blog tagged me in this quick ‘about me’ Q & A post ages ago but with one thing and another I’m only just getting round to writing it. I’ve been rather lacking in inspiration on the blogging front lately (I’ve been writing this blog for four and a half years now, it happens sometimes) so answering a few questions about myself is a relatively easy way to get my typing fingers moving again.

A little bit about me

So without any further waffle from me, here goes…

When was the last time you cried?

A couple of weeks ago I think. I was talking to Barry about some stuff I’ve got going on and it was a relief to get it off my chest. I definitely cry more since I’ve had children, but I still don’t cry at films or books, just real life stuff.

If you were another person, would you be a friend of yourself?

What a strange question – but yes, I think so. I don’t have loads of friends but I try my best to be a good friend to those I do have.

Do you use sarcasm a lot?

No more than usual I don’t think. I have realised in the last four years that small children don’t understand sarcasm so I don’t tend to use it too often these days.

What’s the first thing you notice about people?

If they’re smiling. Swiftly followed by their shoes. I don’t know what it is but I can be quite judgemental about shoes. When I was in sixth form I dumped a boyfriend  because I didn’t like his shoes, among other things, I’m not that shallow!

Scary movie or happy endings?

Definitely happy endings. I hate scary films.

Favourite smells?

Garlic bread. And fresh laundry.

What’s the furthest you’ve ever been from home?

Los Angeles – I went on a solo road trip to San Francisco, LA, Palm Springs, the Grand Canyon, and Las Vegas in 2010. It was awesome.

Do you have any special talents?

I’m really good at packing a car boot for a holiday. It’s a skill I learnt from my dad, who used to cram so much stuff in our boot when we went on camping holidays that we once found a tin of ratatouille in with the spare wheel about 6 months after our holiday.

Where were you born?

Blackpool. After going away to uni, working in France for most of the 6 years after and then moving to Scotland for 13 years, I now live back in the North West about 20 minutes from where I grew up.

What are your hobbies?

Apart from blogging? It used to be dancing and being in musicals but I have done one since 2014, the last one was just before I got pregnant with Gabe. I’d love to get back to it one of these days though.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

I didn’t really have any great dreams, although I vaguely thought being a teacher might be something I’d be good at. And I finally did my teacher training when I was 32.

How many countries have you been to?

11. Mostly Europe plus the USA and Canada.

What was your favourite/worst subject in School?

I was one of those annoying people who enjoyed everything at school. Probably maths and French were my favourites, and least favourite was art but only because I wasn’t very good at it. I did a GCSE in pottery instead.

What is your Favourite drink?

Tea. I do love a nice cold can of Lilt every once in a while too though.

What would you (or have you) named your children?

Toby and Gabriel. I’ve written about why we chose Toby’s name here. And Gabe was Barry’s idea, I just agreed.

Who are some of your favourite YouTubers?

Pass. I don’t really watch YouTube videos (I know, bad blogger!). I do love Yoga with Adrienne but I wouldn’t really call her a YouTuber I don’t think.

Favourite memory from childhood?

I don’t know, that’s really hard. I was in loads of pantomimes with my dance school growing up and we would put them on in the two main theatres in Blackpool. Getting to perform on a massive stage in a proper theatre, to a big audience was pretty amazing.

How would you describe your fashion sense?

Ha! Non-existent. I’m all about the mum uniform of skinny jeans, stripey tops and hoodies.

Tell us one of your bad habits!

I bite my nails. I’ve done it ever since I can remember. I only bite the white bit though so they never look too awful. I used to bite my toe nails when I was young too!

And on that rather disgusting note the questions are done. I hope you enjoyed finding out a bit more about me, and if you have a blog and would like to answer these questions too then consider yourself tagged!

  1. I’m trying to remember what shoes I wore for blogon now! I think we might share a carboot packing talent as well as Youtube habits. I don’t watch hardly any youtube (unless music counts!) but I try and do some Yoga with Adrienne, she’s fab, so calming!
