You may have come to my blog previously to find out more about Exante and how I have used their meal replacement products in the past, but today I have news of an exciting new product. I first tried Exante back in 2014. The first time I followed the Total Solution plan and lost 6lb in one week. Since then I have also tried the Flexi Solution and used Exante products to follow a 5:2 intermittent fasting diet.
As you can see, I have worked with Exante quite a lot in the last few years and I always like to let you know when new products become available. Although a lot of the Exante products are suitable for vegetarians there hasn’t been anything for vegans… until now!
New Exante Vegan Shakes
Exante recently introduced their new vegan shakes in four delicious flavours – double chocolate, blueberry muffin, coffee and walnut, and banana bread. Each shake contains less than 212 calories, 17g of protein and less than 1g of sugar per serving, making them the perfect meal replacement option for both vegans and non-vegans alike! They also include Exante’s unique blend of 27 vitamins and minerals.
Rather than being milk-based, this new collection of shakes is plant-based, meaning that it is formulated using a soy protein. The new range is also gluten-free, making each of the four new shakes suitable for those with gluten intolerance.
These vegan shakes are also the first from Exante to include Green Tea Extract which contains a catechin known as EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate) which supports fat oxidation and metabolism.
The Exante vegan shakes range have been carefully formulated to ensure that they taste just as creamy as their existing meal replacement range, and having tried some of them for myself I can confirm this is the case! I was sent all four flavours of the vegan shakes to try but not being a fan of coffee flavoured things I have to admit I haven’t tried the coffee and walnut flavour.
I have tried the other three flavours though – I made them as I would any of the other meal replacement shakes, using 200ml of very cold water and mixing with my stick blender. From past experience the shakers do work pretty well, and are great for taking to the office or out and about, but at home I always prefer to use my blender as I think it makes for a slightly thicker and smoother shake.
What did I think?
So, my first impressions:
The Double Chocolate flavour was lovely and very similar to the original Exante chocolate shake.
The Banana Bread was more unusual, it has cinnamon flavour as well as banana and definitely reminded me of banana bread rather than the slightly synthetic banana flavour I have experienced with shakes before. It was thick and creamy and definitely satisfying.
Of all the flavours I tried the Blueberry Muffin was my least favourite – it was still nice but a bit too sweet for me.
As regular readers will know I follow an intermittent fasting way of eating all the time, but these Exante products can have a place in that plan too. I am currently experimenting with a 5:2 pattern of fasting and sometimes like to use meal replacement products on my fasting days to give myself a boost of nutrients.
In the five years since I first tried Exante I have done quite a lot of research about diet and weight loss, and found that following a Very Low Calorie Diet for an extended period can affect your metabolism. For this reason I would only ever recommend Exante as a short term solution – it can be very useful in helping to break bad habits around food, and to kick start weight loss.
In fact I recently read Dr Michael Mosely’s new book The Fast 800 which advocates a ‘rapid weight loss’ phase of a few weeks consuming 800 calories a day, followed by intermittent fasting with 800 calories on two or three days a week combined with a healthy, Mediterranean style diet on the other days. You can of course do this with ‘real’ food, but using meal replacement products such as these from Exante really can make the whole process much easier and uncomplicated.
However you want to use meal replacement products to fit in with your lifestyle these new Exante vegan shakes could definitely help you achieve your weight loss goals.
