Another week and another Living Arrows picture. This picture just about sums up this week – Toby is teething (again!), more bottom teeth this time and they are really giving him some trouble. It’s been a pretty grumpy week, without many smiles and with everything in sight finding it’s way into Toby’s mouth. I can almost see the top of one tooth now so hopefully they’ll cut the gum in the next few days and we can all go back to getting a decent night’s sleep and have a happy baby again!
Toby is such a whirlwind these days – he always wants to be on the move, especially now he’s perfected his crawling technique! He seems to hone in on the most dangerous thing in a room; cables, plug sockets and fireplaces being favourites so far, and immediately make a beeline for it. He can now almost sit himself up from being on his tummy and in this week’s Living Arrows shot I managed to capture him in a rare still moment catching a breath. He was probably just scoping out his next target! Lord only knows what he’s going to be like once he starts walking…
Another month has gone so it means it must be time for another Me & Mine post and this month two family photos. We don’t seem to have done a lot this month really. Toby’s swimming and Baby Sensory classes both had a break for the Easter holidays so we didn’t get up to much on that front, and I spent most of the month writing a 2000 word essay, in Spanish, about Che Guevara, which wasn’t the most fun I’ve ever had!
We have enjoyed a bit of sunshine this month though and now we have two cars Barry is getting home from work much earlier and has managed to get the garden all tidied up, and spend much more time with Toby. We took this picture after an impromptu picnic lunch in the garden a couple of weeks ago.
This week we’re having a wee break in the Lake District and we managed to get another family portrait this month outside the Bridge House in Ambleside. Unfortunately, the old guy decided to come and sit on the wall just as we were taking the photos. We had some others without him in but I really like the moment we were capturing in this one so I decided I’d just have to use the picture anyway!
We don’t have any big plans for the coming month – I’ve got my final exams for my Spanish course in a couple of weeks then at the end of the month it’s my birthday then we’re off to spend ten days in France at the beginning of June!
It’s been lovely weather for the last few days up here in Scotland. Barry’s managed to make a great start at getting the garden back under control and so today we decided to put a plastic sheet out on the lawn and have ourselves a little picnic. Toby’s never had a chance to crawl around outside before so after a liberal application of suncream we let him out for a wriggle. He was a little wary at first but then immediately made a beeline for anything we didn’t want him to play with (including the bubble machine – a Christmas present which only made it out of the box today).
I’m loving this age with Toby. He’s such fun to play with – he loves being swung and bounced around and it’s lovely watching him exploring all the new things around him.
Week 15 now in the Living Arrows project. Yesterday Toby’s new playpen arrived so I don’t have to have eyes in the back of my head any more and I can actually go to the loo without worrying about what he might be getting up to!
Toby’s still get used to being in baby jail the playpen but he seems quite happy so far. Fingers crossed it stays that way!
It’s Living Arrows project week 14 – week 14, where is this year going!
Three pictures this week of Toby enjoying his new favourite place. He just backs himself up under the chair and, even though he can commando crawl forwards now if he wants to, he seems quite happy just to stay under there watching what’s happening. And it keeps me happy because he can’t get up to any mischief when he’s under the chair!

This week it’s another close-up shot of Toby – I just can’t get enough of this boy’s face! He actually had a little accident this week – he pulled the waste paper bin in the living room over and managed to smash it into his face. There is a bit of a bruise on the bridge of his nose but you can’t really see it in this photo and he was lucky to get away without getting black eyes!
I can’t believe it’s the end of another month already – this year is absolutely flying but March is over and it’s time for another family portrait. March seems to have been another busy month even though I am struggling to think what we have done.
The first weekend of March my friend Claire came over to babysit so Barry and I could go out for a much needed quiet meal on our own. We made a few plans while we were there which should hopefully improve our lives a little bit. The first was to buy a second car which will shorten Barry’s commute by up to two hours a day – we did that and picked up our Toyota Aygo on Saturday. Toby and I are very excited that daddy is going to be home an hour and a half earlier from now on!
I also started reclaiming a bit of me time this month – I’ve started going to a Metafit class and I’ve also gone back to the amateur musical group that I’ve been a member of for a while. I even managed to survive a three hour dance audition last weekend! I’m really pleased I decided to back for this year’s show, it wasn’t until I was there that I realised how much I’d missed it and all the people who are involved. I also had a bit of extended me time this week with my whistle stop trip to London.
And to this weekend – my mum and dad have come up today to visit for a few days and so we went out to our local Harvester pub for dinner. It was the first time we have taken Toby out to eat and he was an absolute star. He had a little bit of what we were eating and then polished off an apple pouch that we had taken with us. Even being an hour late for bedtime didn’t seem to bother him. We got my dad to take this month’s photo while we were out. I was trying to find one where we were all looking at the camera but this one just made me smile. Toby loves grabbing faces (and my glasses!) at the moment and so this photo really captures everyday life for us.

This week Toby is so close to properly crawling! I’ve said before he can get all over the place by rolling and wriggling.
This week has definitely seen an improvement in his commando crawling – he can now go forwards as well as backwards. He has been getting up on his knees for a few weeks too but in the last day or so he started trying to move his legs. The funniest thing though has to be something I’ve only seen him do today – get up on his feet and hands. He looks like he’s practising his yoga poses…until he collapses in a heap on the floor!
I’m sure it’s only a matter of days before he figures out what he needs to do with his arms and legs to really get moving. And then there’ll be no stopping him and we really will need to get a playpen!

This weeks photo is another close up portrait. Toby is generally a very smiley baby but I love to capture his more serious side too. I just love his little face and those eyes that feel like they’re looking right into your heart. I wonder what he is thinking?
