Me & Mine // A Family Portrait (November 2018)

Well November has disappeared in the blink of an eye hasn’t it? I think it’s probably because as soon as Halloween was over everyone immediately started on with full on Christmas preparations and it’s as if November just didn’t really exist!

Having said that we’ve been quite busy this month and actually managed to have days out almost every weekend.

The first weekend of November we went for a walk up Beacon Fell which isn’t too far from where we live. It was good to get out in the fresh air and we had a lovely afternoon (apart from all Toby’s screaming and panic every time we saw a dog!). We took this selfie at the top of the hill…

I don’t know what Toby is doing with that stick, and you can see the grazes on Gabe’s face where he fell over in the playground of Toby’s school two days earlier… I still love it though!

The next week work started on our downstairs bathroom makeover. It’s all but finished now and I’ll be sharing a full post about it soon but safe to say I love it! And thankfully we have two bathrooms so the work wasn’t too disruptive.

We also joined the National Trust this month and enjoyed our first NT day out at Quarry Bank Mill. It was fab and I’m sure we’ll be using our membership a lot more over the next 12 months.

Then last weekend we went over to see my brother and sister-in-law in Todmorden. We had a very cold and windy walk up on the moors to see the Bridestones. The boys really enjoyed exploring the rocks (you can see a few more pictures in this week’s Living Arrows post) and we managed to get this family picture too…

Unfortunately this great month for family adventures hasn’t ended in such a lovely way – Gabe came down with a stomach bug on Wednesday night – just time time for me and Barry to go to London for the weekend today! Luckily it seems to have just been a short lived bug and he was already feeling much better by yesterday evening. So far Toby seems to be OK too, so I’m hoping it stays that way while my mum and dad are looking after the boys this weekend (did I mention it’s the first time we’ve left them for more than one night since Gabe was born, and we’ve only left them for one night once before!). I’m sure they’ll all be fine but we could have done without the illness complication.

So that’s all for this month. We are definitely on the countdown to Christmas now. Toby is forever asking how many weeks and how many days it is to go, and both boys have already been busy practicing for their respective nativities. I’m not complaining though – I think we’re all really looking forward to Christmas this year – we’ve promised the boys we’ll put the tree up on Monday as long as they behave for Grandma and Grandad. There’s nothing like a bit of bribery to get into the festive spirit!
