Although we haven’t done much of anything at home for the last week, the boys have been doing lots of Christmassy things at school. Last week they even had a flying visit from Father Christmas who arrived in an actual helicopter!
Because they couldn’t do the usual Nativity or Carol Concert this year each class had 10 minutes of carols around an outdoor Christmas tree, with a different class on each day and parents invited to watch. Gabe’s class had learnt to sign ‘On a Starry Night’ as well as sing it too which was super cute!
They then had a Christmas non-uniform day on Friday to raise some money for the PTA. We usually have a big Christmas fair which is one of the biggest fundraisers of the year but again that has been another casualty of Covid.
Last night Toby had his last Zoom Beavers session of the year – they were making Christmas cards and so Toby had his elf hat on for the occasion. I really hope they can get back to in person meetings some time in the new year but I am glad they are managing to carry on doing something for now.
Yesterday was Christmas dinner day at school, which meant another opportunity to wear Christmas jumpers. This time they had to wear them over their school uniform though and I think it made them look like miniature Christmas business men! I took this picture in the morning while the boys were building their advent Lego.
We have a wooden advent calendar that you can just see behind Gabe on the windowsill. I used to just put chocolate in it but last year I bought a Lego Father and Mrs Christmas set (this one – affiliate link) and split it all up in the different doors. They get a few pieces each day and by Christmas it will all be built!
The boys have still got Christmas parties in school this week, and then we just have to make it to 2pm on Friday without anyone having to self-isolate!
This is my ninth year taking part in this linky celebrating childhood, based on a poem by Kahlil Gibran, “You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth” .

That carol concert sounds lovely – ours did very little festive stuff at school this year x
A carol concert sounds lovely. Our schools did a nativity, but filmed the classes separately and edited it all together. It was very sweet x
We had a filmed nativity but I really like the sound of your carol concert. Love the idea of splitting up a lego kit going to remember that for next year. Hope you have a lovely Christmas x
Your school sounds super! Ours weren’t allowed to sing or have Christmas parties. They we’re pretty miserable at celebrating Christmas to be honest
