I’m just going to write a quick post this week because I’m writing this on Sunday night, it’s late, and I’m shattered after Toby’s birthday party today! Of course this week’s big event was Toby turning five on Wednesday. He was at school for his birthday but he had a great day by all accounts.
It’s Gabe’s birthday in five weeks but we’re going to be on holiday then so we decided to get both the boys bikes for their birthdays and give them to them now. Gabe is not coping very well with having to wait for his birthday, and it makes sense for him to have his bike now so he can get the use of it over the summer holidays anyway.
I know a lot of people recommend starting with a balance bike and then not needing stabilisers, but we have a balance bike and neither of the boys have taken to it so we’ve decided to go down the more traditional route. Gabe is still getting the hang of pedalling but I’m sure he’ll manage it soon enough.
Toby is right on the edge between two sizes of bike, so we went for the bigger one. It means he can only just touch the ground at the moment but he grows so fast we didn’t want him to grow out of it in a few months. He’s loving it though (for about 10 minutes at a time before he gets fed up!) and is doing a great job of pedalling and steering. I think we need to get a bike rack for the car so we can actually go out on our bikes somewhere a bit further away than our street!
I’ll have a proper post all about Toby’s birthday coming soon so that’s it for now, and by the time I’m back with next week’s Living Arrows, it will be the summer holidays!
Toby looks so grown up on his bike! Good choice sizing up – I’d want to get as much use as possible out of it,too! Interesting to hear that your boys didn’t rate balance bikes. We’re yet to buy one and I’m not sure what to go for. Wondering whether to just get an actual bike but not put the pedals on to start with? #LivingArrows
They have both gotten so big! When did that happen? Such brilliant photo’s of the boys #LivingArrows xx
Bikes are a great present! They look very happy on them x
I have no idea how Gabe is big enough for a proper bike! Where have the years gone?! Toby looks so grown up here too. We’re going to be getting A and T new bikes asap x
Love these photos, they both look so grown up on their bikes! x #LivingArrows
Great photos of them on their new bikes. Olivia still can’t even reach the peddles properly on trainer bike.
