Have you ever considered living abroad?

**Collaborative post

The idea of moving home and starting somewhere new can often be one of the most exciting things that you can do. After all, there’s nothing like getting to give your life that little bit of a boost by doing something new and putting yourself in a fresh environment. However, a lot of people find themselves in a position where they’re letting themselves becoming somewhat limited when it comes to the kinds of homes that they’re looking for.

This often comes down to one very specific reason: location. Most of the time we tend to look for homes that are specifically within a small area so that the change that you make when you move to a new home isn’t going to be that drastic. But what if a drastic change is really what you need? With that in mind, here are just a few reasons why you might want to consider looking for your next home a little further afield.

The cost

If there’s one thing most of us have to deal with on a pretty consistent basis, it’s the fact that the cost of living is always going up. Rent or mortgage payments are more expensive all of the time not to mention all of the other costs involved in running a home. Well, if you’re willing to look abroad for your potential home then you may well find that there are a whole lot more options within a more reasonable price range than you’re used to. If you look somewhere like Singapore you can see the HDB resale price 2019 and you can get an amazing deal on a fantastic property. Sure, this isn’t going to apply everywhere but you’re almost certain to find at least a few places with beautiful properties at a much lower price.

It gives you extra property options

Buying property to live abroad

Not only is the price going to be lower if you’re looking around in other countries for a home, but the sheer number of different properties that you could be looking at is going to be so much bigger. You’ll go from looking at a few dozen properties at a time to look at hundreds! This means that you’re much less likely to fall into the trap of having to settle for a home that doesn’t really tick all of your boxes simply because it’s the best out of the selection you have available to you. When you’re looking internationally then you never have to settle for anything because there will always be another potentially fantastic property available to you.

It lets you rediscover yourself

Most of us would consider ourselves pretty independent people but there’s certainly no denying that all of us are products of our environments in a big way. If you’ve ever gone back to your hometown after some time away you’ll understand this feeling. It’s like you’re pulled back in time to the person that you were before you left. By moving to a totally new country then you’re able to really start over and figure out who you are in a way that might never have been possible before. You can rediscover who you are without all of the baggage of your old life dragging you down and you get the chance to decide who it is that you really want to be.

You can meet new and amazing people

Make new friends abroad

Thanks to things like social media, it really has never been so easy to connect with other people all over the world. That being said, there is so substitute for actually getting out there and meeting people. Moving to another country means that you have the chance to learn about their culture and understand the ways in which many of us are different as well as all of the ways that we’re the same. Being able to learn about other people’s cultures not only gives you the chance to make new friends that you might otherwise never have known, but it gives you a better understanding and respect of other people’s lives and cultures as well.

It opens up your career possibilities

Job hunting is never fun but it’s especially difficult when you feel like you’re trapped by your location. After all, being stuck in one place means that you’re almost certainly going to be pretty limited in the number of jobs available to you. If you look further afield, that job pool grows exponentially. If you’re the kind of person with the skills that employers want, a lot of those skills are going to be entirely transferable no matter what kind of industry you’re working in or where you’re looking to live.

It gives you a totally fresh start

It can often be pretty easy to fall into a habit of assuming that your life is the way it is and you’re never really going to be able to make any changes to it. However, the truth is that you always have the chance to start over and sometimes that means putting yourself in a new circumstance. Living abroad can be truly fantastic because it gives you the chance to not only experience something new in your life but to have a fresh start that you might otherwise never be able to create for yourself if your stayed where you were.

Of course, this obviously isn’t going to be the right choice for everyone. The truth is that this kind of thing can be incredibly scary and it’s not a choice that you should take lightly. After all, if you dive into moving to a new country too soon without really thinking about it, the consequences of realising that it’s not what you really wanted can be pretty serious. It’s incredibly important that you take your time to do your research and decide that this is something that you really want to do. Otherwise, you’re just going to end up in a position where you’re stuck somewhere you don’t want to be, wishing you were back where everything was more familiar.
