Would a lottery win change your Christmas?

**This is a collaborative post

Do you ever wonder what life would be like if you won the lottery?  I remember when the UK National Lottery started in 1994 – I had a weekend job in a newsagents at the time and everyone was so excited playing the first few draws. I used to play every week but never won more than about £30. I didn’t play for years and years, and then for a while I would buy the odd EuroMillions ticket but never won.

Sometimes though, I see that there’s a massive rollover jackpot and I’m tempted to have another go. There is now even a way to play lotteries in other countries – you can use websites like Lottoland to bet on the outcome of the Irish Lottery, the US Powerball and even the Spanish Christmas lottery El Gordo that has a prize pool of £2.1 billion!

I do sometimes like to daydream about what life would be like if I won the lottery. Especially at this time of year I wonder if we would do Christmas any differently if money was no object. And do you know what, I don’t know if we would…

Would Christmas be different if you won the lottery?

For this year anyway, the presents are all bought, the tree is up and the plans for Christmas day are made. So we probably wouldn’t do anything different this year except be very happy that we had money in bank, that we wouldn’t need to worry about paying the bills in the New Year, that we could buy new cars, go on holiday, maybe even a new house.

I can’t really imagine having enough money that you wouldn’t need to worry about it ever again. It would be amazing not to have to go to work again – although I reckon I would still keep up my blog, and Barry would be able to concentrate on writing video games full time instead of in the few spare hours he gets in the evenings.

I think once I knew my family, our parents, and my brother and sister-in-law, had everything they needed I would have to think about donating some of the money to charity, although there are so many good causes out there it would be hard to choose.

What would you do if you won the lottery this Christmas? Do you think it would change the plans you’ve already made?
