Remembering Childhood // KatyKicker

It’s that time of week when another blogger is going to be sharing their childhood memories. This week it’s Katy from KatyKicker.

Which decade were you born in?

The 80s.

What is your earliest memory? How old were you?

My earliest memory is being 2 years old and playing with dogs, Alsatians, that I think belonged to a neighbour in the first home I ever lived in.

What was your favourite toy at 5 years old? At 10?

At 5 years old I didn’t have a specific one, at 10 years old it was a Bradley the Bear that I won on a holiday! My brother should technically have won it, but he’d gone to the toilet when our name was called to play higher/ lower. He went on about that for years!

Do you still have any toys from your childhood?

Unfortunately no. I’ve moved a lot over the years and at times have downsized and lost possessions.

Who was your favourite pop group/artist as a teenager?

I LOVED Westlife. My best friend, Michaela, or rather her Mum, got us tickets and we had the best time even if they did just stand up and sit down a lot.

What was your favourite TV show(s)?

Sabrina the Teenage Witch was always a firm favourite. I also loved Kenan & Kel, The Simpsons and later on Hollyoaks!

What was the first film you remember seeing at the cinema?

I don’t remember my first ever film. The first theatre show I saw was based around Humpty Dumpty and I can still remember it 25 odd years later!

Do you have any dodgy haircut/ outfit memories that you’d rather forget?

My Mum took me to the hairdressers, with my long hair, and advised me that I could have a sum of money for each inch I had cut off. I asked for 3 inches, as I wasn’t greedy, and she promptly had it cut just under my ears. Because I was flat-chested I also looked like a boy for several years until it was back to past shoulder length.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

I wanted to be a lawyer. I’m a self-employed blogger and I LOVE my life. My life is probably significantly less stressful than if I became a lawyer and that suits me just fine!

If you could go back to being a child again what age would you choose and why?

My official answer is that I wouldn’t choose to go back, as I don’t believe in looking back (much!). However, I would love to go back to being 5, just because it is a lovely carefree age and I could relive
my first day at school.

Thanks to Katy for sharing her childhood memories – I can’t believe your mum made a deal with you about your hair then had it cut it anyway!

If you enjoyed this post then please do come back next week when another blogger will be remembering their childhood. You can also read all the other posts in the series here.
