Remembering Childhood // Boo Roo and Tigger Too

It’s that time of week when another blogger is going to be sharing their childhood memories. This week’s Remembering Childhood comes from Sarah from Boo Roo and Tigger Too.

Which decade were you born in?

1980s

What is your earliest memory? How old were you?

Coming down stairs on Christmas morning when I was almost 3 years old.  After we’d unwrapped all the presents we piled the wrapping paper up and let our dog Tootsie into the room.  I remember watching with amazement at him running and jumping through it all.

What was your favourite toy at 5 years old? At 10?

My Bluebird A La Carte Kitchen was my favourite toy from my childhood.  I got it for Christmas just before I turned five (I’m a late December birthday baby).  Oh, how I loved playing with it, wheeling it around and popping my mum’s tea towels into the washing machine on it.

I’m not really sure what my favourite toy was when I was 10 years old.  I suspect is was something to do with Barbie dolls.

Do you still have any toys from your childhood?

Unfortunately I don’t.  We had a house fire when I was seven and we lost most of our belongings.  Then when I was 14 we moved from Cumbria to Norfolk and only packed the essentials so most of my old toys were given away.

Who was your favourite pop group/artist as a teenager?

Whilst my friends were all lusting over Take That, I much preferred Boyzone.

What was your favourite TV show(s)?

Blossom was one of my favourite shows, I loved her teenage angst.  It’s funny to see the actress in the Big Bang Theory which is now one of my favourite TV shows.

What was the first film you remember seeing at the cinema?

Honey I Shrunk The Kids with one of my uncles.  At the time he didn’t have any children of his own so would take me to the cinema so that he could watch the children’s films that he secretly wanted to watch.

Do you have any dodgy haircut/ outfit memories that you’d rather forget?

Any photos before I discovered hair straighteners are ones that never need to see the light of day.  My hair was curly and uncontrollable!

What did you want to be when you grew up?

I wanted to join the Army.  I could never make up my mind between the Military Police or the Royal Logistic Corps.  I loved watching Soldier Soldier and two of the female characters Nancy and Stacey inspired my love to join up.

If you could go back to being a child again what age would you choose and why?

Such a difficult one – I think I would like to go back to age three or four. Before I started school so I could go back to my pre-school.  I can remember having so much fun there – plus the lady who ran it still asks my mum about me whenever she sees her.

Thanks for sharing your memories Sarah – I’m so jealous that you had an A La Carte kitchen! I always really wanted one of those when I was little.

This post is the last in the Remembering Childhood series (for now at least). I just want to say a big thank you to all the bloggers who have taken part. If you enjoyed this post then you read all the other posts in the series here.
