My likes and loves // #LittleLoves May & June 2018

A few weeks ago I realised it had got so far into June that it really wasn’t worth me writing a May likes and loves post so I just decided to wait and combine the two months into one post! Since my last post we’ve had my birthday and half term, and now we’re only a few weeks off the summer holidays! Time is absolutely flying at the moment (which is probably why I’m not keeping up with all the blogging I want to be doing!)

Read

Since my last post I have read Wonder by RJ Palacio – I had seen a lot of people saying how much they enjoyed the film when it came out so I was keen to give the book a go. I always like to read books before watching films if I’m going to do both – I usually find I enjoy the book more but I’m looking forward to seeing the film of Wonder and seeing if I feel the same. I did enjoy the book but it didn’t grab me quite as much as I hoped it would.

Next on the list was Still Me by Jojo Moyes – I actually got this book from the library and so read an actual book rather than reading on my Kindle for a change! I read the two books that came before this one ‘Me Before You’ and ‘After You’ when they came out and was really looking forward to reading this sequel. It was a great read and if you’ve read the previous two books I’d definitely recommend it.

As a side note, one of my goals for 2018 was to read 12 books this year. I love reading but I’d hardly read anything since having the boys so I wanted to change that. And I think I’m going to smash my goal because Still Me was my 12th book so far this year and we’re only half way through!

Watched

I’ve been enjoying the new series of The Handmaid’s Tale on Channel 4. As the first series finished where the book ends it’s interesting to see where they’re taking the story now.

We’ve also been watching the most recent series of Homeland – we recorded it when it was on earlier in the year but are only just getting round to watching it as we wanted to finish Designated Survivor first. I’m really liking it so far – a definite return to form after the last couple of seasons that haven’t been that great.

This is Us TV series

On a recommendation from Lauren at Scrapbook Blog I’ve just started watching This is Us on Amazon Prime. I’m only about 5 episodes in so far but it’s fab – it’s quite different from most things I watch but I’ll definitely keep watching. I need to get through this first season quickly because season 2 is just about to start on More4.

And lastly I feel like I should mention that one thing I haven’t been watching is Love Island – I feel like I’m the only person on my social media who isn’t watching! I don’t know why not really – sometimes I just get it in my head that I’m not going to watch / read / listen to something just because everyone goes on about how good it is. Weird I know but I can be stubborn like that!

Heard

Does ‘Mummy, mummy, mummy’ count? Because I think that’s all I’ve heard lately. I love that Gabe is a chatterbox but sometimes he seems to say nothing except my name!

Made

I don’t know what I’ve made this month – nothing usual anyway. I really need to get out of the food rut we’re in – one of my other goals for 2018 was to cook something new once a month but I’ve not really managed it all. Still, it’s Toby’s birthday in a couple of weeks so I’m sure I’ll be tasked with making a birthday cake. I’m not sure that I’ll be able to top last year’s epic Numberblocks cake though!

Wore

I got some Lucy & Yak dungarees for my birthday and I love them. I actually got two pairs but I haven’t worn the other ones yet because they’re cord and too warm for this ridiculously hot weather we’ve been having! These ones are cotton though so pretty cool to wear.

I’ve also been living in my Saltwater sandals – I got the red pair you can see in the photo above for my birthday and I’ve got a tan pair I bought last year. I love them!

I’ve been struggling on without many summer clothes though – I’ve been pregnant for two of the last five summers and we’ve not really had great weather the other years so I’ve been managing with the few summer things I had. Anyway, I decided I need so new things so had a trip to Matalan yesterday where I bought two pairs of harem trousers (which are soooo comfy) and a vest top, and then I bought a shirt, a dress and a denim jacket from Tesco. I keep saying I’m going to start buying more expensive (and ethical) clothes but the supermarket is just so convenient!

And Lastly

We had a lovely half term at the end of May, with my 40th birthday on the bank holiday Monday when we went to Samlesbury Hall near Preston. Then we had a trip to see my friend and her twins near Chester, and a visit to Blackpool Zoo with my mum to round the week off.

This is my family outside the restaurant after mine and my brother’s birthday dinner…

The whole family at my birthday dinner

And for the first time since I was pregnant with Gabe, Barry and I had a night away and left the boys with my mum and dad! We only went to a hotel 20 minutes down the road but I went for a swim, we had a lovely dinner, an uninterrupted night’s sleep and a yummy breakfast. Toby and Gabe were great for my parents so now we just need to decide when we’re going to do it again!

Now we’re on the countdown to Toby’s birthday and then summer holidays a few weeks after that.

I think that’s all for this month – once again I’m linking up with Stevie’s Likes and Loves and I’ll be back with another post of my #LittleLoves next month.

  1. I’m not watching the dreaded love island either! In fact I have muted the hashtag and the word ‘island’ on twitter! Glad you’re loving This is Us – season 2 starts on c4 this week I think.
Loving the dungarees and your new profile pic! 🙂

  2. I really need to read more, I loved it before I had my little two and actually had time to read, I think I will give still me a read as I enjoyed the previous books too. I always read the book before watching a film too and totally agree the film is rarely as good as the book. xx #LikedandLoved

  3. What a gorgeous family snap! It sounds like May and June have been full of fun. I don’t watch Love Island either – on the odd occasion I’ve caught a minute or two in between switching channels it’s made me so cross and I’ve felt so ‘ugh’ about it that I couldn’t bring myself to watch it no matter how many people tell me it’s brilliant. I just can’t. I’m desperate to watch This Is Us though and the husband still refuses so I think I’m going to have to just start it on my own when he’s on a night shift – it looks so good and exactly like the kind of programme I like to watch. Hope you have a fun July 🙂

  4. Those dungarees are lovely and they so suit you! I’ve never watched Love Island either, it just doesn’t appeal to me unlike the rest of the world ha! Thanks for joining in with #LikedandLoved again lovely.

  5. I loved Still Me too, Jojo Moyes is so good, isn’t she? I have to admit that I haven’t been watching love Island either! I hope you’ve had a lovely July. xx

  6. Loving your outfit. Ooh I’ve had my eye on Lucy and Yak dungarees for ages! I think I need to decide on the colour and message my husband the link for my birthday present. I wanted to buy myself some tan saltwaters too but it seems I’ve missed the boat as trying to find them in my size is proving impossible!

  7. Happy 40th, I hope you enjoyed all your celebrations. I am so with you on Love Island, I’ve never seen an episode, it’s really not my scene. I’ve found that doing a reading challenge really helped me to read more, I bet you’ll get to your target much quicker than expected. I’m looking forward to reading Still Me, the first too were fab reads. Enjoy the summer.
