So I’m cheating a little bit with this post. Really I should be sharing pictures from last week, but I didn’t take any… so instead I’m going to show you the World Book Day pictures I took today, and I’ll try and make sure I take some more photos this weekend for next week’s post.

This year I had to think about three World Book Day costumes with me being in school again. Luckily Gabe was happy to go as the boy from The Boy Who Grew Dragons series which we’ve been reading at bedtime since Christmas. It meant he could go in his own clothes, although he did fleece me for another £20 Jellycat toy because it was the only dragon we could find that looked like the one in the book!

Toby’s costume was a bit more complicated – he wanted to go as Frodo from Lord of the Rings, which he’s been reading with his dad for the last few months. I managed to pick up some trousers and a shirt for a pound each from the charity shop, then we borrowed a waistcoat from my brother and some braces from one of the other TAs at school. I bought a fleece blanket for £3.50 and made a travelling cloak – I’m glad my dad fixed my sewing machine when I decided to make face masks during the first lockdown, because sewing the cloak by hand would have taken ages!

We had a lovely day at school with lots of different reading activities, oh, and if you want to see my costume I posted a photo over on my Instagram page here. I hope you’re children enjoyed World Book Day – I know not every school asks the children to dress up but I do love seeing all the pictures of the costumes of those that do wear them.

We’re heading back to Forest School on Saturday for the first time in months. I’m just hoping the weather is OK and we get to enjoy a few hours in the woods…
