We made it! Half term is here and I’m already enjoying our first day of not having to do school work. We don’t have many plans for this week – I think we’re going to go for a walk along the canal this afternoon to make the most of the only day it isn’t going to be raining, and there’s a few indoor things we can do later in the week.

Gabe is learning about that favourite Year 1 topic, the Great Fire of London, at the moment and last week he was asked to make a model house. We made a little card one but in a moment of madness I suggested we could try and make a biscuit house this week!

We’ve also got an electronics project to do courtesy of my dad – he’s given the boys a bag of parts and we’re going to do a Zoom call later in the week so he can show them what to do with it all.

Other than that we’ll try and spend a bit more time outside and we just bought a Ring Fit for the Switch so if it’s raining all week at least I can try and get the boys doing something a bit active (and me too!). I’m sure there’ll be plenty of video games and TV too, but to be honest I’m just going to go with it.

The boys do sometimes do things that don’t involve screens I promise! They’re sat next to me playing with Lego (and arguing with each other, but we can’t have everything!), and Gabe had fun playing with his kinetic sand for a good hour yesterday…

I did have a funny picture of Toby in the bath to share this week (he looks so different when his hair is wet and off his face) but last week he did some activities for Safer Internet Day and came up with a list of Dos and Don’ts – one of them was ‘don’t share anything about someone else online without their permission’ and now he has decided he wants to approve any pictures I share of him, which is fair enough, but does make things a bit more tricky for me.

So, instead of the bath picture we have this one I took to share with his teacher of Toby holding his Safer Internet poster…

I hope you all manage to have a relaxing and enjoyable half term, and we can all cross our fingers that there will only be two more weeks of home learning before they can all go back to school!
