Living Arrows 5/52 (2020)

I feel like I don’t have very much to write in these weekly Living Arrows posts at the moment. Life is just plodding on with school, work, and swimming lessons. This last week was a bit different for me though as I spent two nights in London, seeing three musicals for my Christmas present.

Although I’ve been away for plenty of weekends, I’ve not been away and left the boys with Barry during the week. I usually do all the school runs and general school admin so it was something new for everyone. We’re lucky that Barry already works from home two days a week but also his employers are very flexible so he can work at home more for things like this.

By all accounts they all managed perfectly well without me. I had a fantastic time in London too – I saw Dear Evan Hansen, Come from Away, and Waitress. I’ll try and write some proper reviews soon but I really enjoyed all of them. Come from Away was my favourite though, if you get chance to see it I’d definitely recommend it.

We had swimming lessons and then a birthday party on Saturday. It was actually the party of a girl in Gabe’s class, but her sister is in Toby’s class and their parents kindly said Toby could come too. I think it was the first party we have ever been too where they both enjoyed the whole thing. They joined in the games and dancing and generally had a great time, rather than wanting to sit on my knee the whole time! Hopefully we’re making progress and this is a sign of things to come.

We had the camera out yesterday to take our (slightly late) January Me & Mine pictures and I grabbed these pictures of Toby and Gabe. At the weekends Toby can often be found with his headphones on watching Minecraft videos on his tablet. Sometimes it frustrates me that it’s all he seems to want to do… but at least it usually stops any arguments between him and Gabe about what to watch on TV!

Gabe has had a rather emotional weekend. He’s always emotional but this weekend seems to have been crying even more than usual. It’s hard being four sometimes! As much as he can cry at the drop of a hat, he spends a lot of time laughing and being silly too. He’s got such a funny face sometimes…

At least we’ve only a couple more weeks until half term here. Even though it’s been quite a short half term the boys will still welcome the break. We’ve not got any plans at the moment – I’m going back to hospital about my eye on Tuesday so we need to see what’s happening with that before we can really plan anything so we’re on a bit of a wait and see at the moment.

Until next week….

This is my ninth year taking part in this linky celebrating childhood, based on a poem by Kahlil Gibran, “You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth” .

  1. We also had a party to go to this week, took a bit of encouragement to get Ava to leave my side but she did eventually and had a fab time, glad your boys did too!

  2. I’ve been struggling to write about our week’s lately on Living Arrows too as our weekends haven’t been very exciting! It sounds like you had a lovely weekend away, I’ve not heard of any of those musicals before so will have to check them out! #LivingArrows

  3. Must have been lots of fun having a break in routine. What a fantastic Christmas present to get, you must have been over the moon with that one! I’ve heard good things about them all.

  4. It sounds like they had a great time whilst you were away – and your theatre shows looked fantastic! I know what you mean about doing the same thing each week – work, school, clubs etc here too x

  5. What a lovely thing to do, London sounds amazing. Our weeks look the same too, we just count down to half term x p.s sorry for the late comment, we’ve had no power.
