Living Arrows 20/52 (2020)

I’m a bit late with this week’s Living Arrows post because I hadn’t managed to take any pictures of the boys at all last week. There’s not really much to take pictures of at the moment is there?

I really don’t have anything new to say at the moment. Despite lock down restrictions being eased slightly since last week nothing has changed for us day to day.

We seem to have settled into a bit of routine at last which is mostly working for all of us. The boys do a bit of school work in the mornings (under sufferance most of the time), and then they watch some Minecraft on telly at lunchtime, we play a bit in the afternoon and then they get an hour of PlayStation before tea.

There’s definitely been a lot more screen time since lock down started but whatever works right? Gabe has got a few phonics and maths games on his tablet and sometimes when he’s resisting any kind of written work he plays those instead… before sneakily switching to Lego Batman when he thinks I’m not looking!

Toby is a bit more amenable to doing his school work most days. He’s been using an old tablet of my mum’s for some educational stuff – mostly for reading actually, he’s been working his way though the school reading scheme that’s available online – his reading is fantastic now but he’s still not the biggest fan of reading for enjoyment but hopefully he’ll get there one of these days.

That’s all from me for this week anyway, I hope you’re keeping safe and staying sane, and I’ll be back next week with another Living Arrows post.

This is my ninth year taking part in this linky celebrating childhood, based on a poem by Kahlil Gibran, “You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth” .

If you’d like to see the rest of my Living Arrows posts you can find them all here.

  1. Don’t feel bad about the extra screen time, its needed for both ours and their own sanity at times. By the sounds of it they have been accessing lots of lovely educational apps and resources.

  2. Holly’s reading is what we’ve seen the biggest improvement since lockdown. Having more time to do it and not feeling rushed after school has made it more enjoyable for us both. x

  3. We are also having a lot more screen time than I care to think about. But with both of us working and on calls a lot of the time we need to do something.. Its definitely starting to drag now.
