Living Arrows 2/52 (2021)

Well, things have changed again since last week’s post haven’t they? I think we probably all knew another lockdown was coming but I thought we might get a few more days before they announced it. The boys managed to get back to school on Monday – they were happy they got to see their friends for one day at least!

After the boys’ school took a day to get themselves organised they’ve been great at sending through work every day. They’ve decided not to have any live teaching for the younger children but we’ve been getting feedback on the work the boys have done throughout the day, and for now at least they are happy to get on with things.

I’m amazed at how well Toby and Gabe are coping with all this, once again. When we had to tell them on Tuesday morning that they wouldn’t be going back to school for at least six weeks they just accepted it with barely a question.

Being at home does have some benefits too – on Friday the boys were both very excited to wake up to discover we’d had a little bit of snow overnight! There wasn’t much but I got our snow shovel out (a relic from our days living in Scotland), and scooped together all the snow from the pavement outside our house. And with that we had just about enough to build a decent sized snowman!

Of course by yesterday it had warmed up and we had big tears from both of them because their snowman was almost gone but at least they got to make one in the first place, and that probably wouldn’t have happened if they had been in school.

I hope you are all coping with this newest lockdown. I know we are all really feeling the pandemic fatigue now. I don’t think anybody realised last year just how long this was going to go on for, and it’s so hard not being able to see friends and family or make any real plans for things to look forward to. We’ve just got to hang on though – I really do think the end is in sight now. At least that’s what I keep telling myself….we’ve just got to keep going, what else can we do?

This is my ninth year taking part in this linky celebrating childhood, based on a poem by Kahlil Gibran, “You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth” .

  1. YOU GOT SNOW!!!! I love that snowman. And I agree with you, I dont think any of us thought this would be going on a year later. I really do hope that with the vaccine roll out happening this is now the beginning of the real end

  2. I’ll be honest, I’ve stopped holding out hope… I’m just going with the flow and praying that the pandemic ends at some point. I wish we could have built a snowman – such a lovely photo 🙂

  3. Pandemic fatigue pretty much sums it up. I’m just exhausted by it. So pleased the boys are doing well with the home schooling – it’s definitely not what I expected to be doing this year! x

  4. Pandemic fatigue is a good term for it – definitely feeling that right now!! My two are Year 1 and have a packed timetable of live lessons, which is handy in some ways but also quite intense and leaves little room for anything else!! Hope this week goes ok for you xx #livingarrows

  5. That’s a brilliant snowman they did a great job. No snow here unfortantely as my two are desperate for it. We are struggling with the juggling act but as you say we’ve no choice other than to get on with it!

  6. It’s so tough isn’t it. It’s been 307 days since the first lockdown. What a stressful and tiring time it’s been! The children have coped so well throughout and I often feel they are the ones that have lost the most.
