Last week we spent four nights in Derbyshire in a self-catering cottage near Bakewell. We had a really lovely time – the boys slept all night, they played nicely together in the big garden (most of the time) and we had some fab days out while we were there.
Gabe’s picture was taken on a miniature train in the big park in Matlock. We went there on a steam train with my mum and dad who were staying nearby in their caravan. It was a lovely big park with lots to do, but at this point we’d just got Gabe to stop crying after he’d managed to fall over and graze his hand (hence the baby wipe bandage he’s sporting!).
We went to a lot of playgrounds while we were away – on our first day away we went up to the Heights of Abraham (on a cable car!) and there were two big play areas. The boys were both really brave climbing and going on big slides – it was lovely to see after them both being scared of so many parks for so long!
Toby’s picture was taken yesterday when the boys were doing a little Easter egg treasure hunt that I’d set up for them. We’ve never really done much at Easter before other than give the boys a couple of eggs but this year we’ve been on two Easter hunts, a local one in the first week of the holidays and then one of the Cadbury ones when we went to Dunham Massey, a National Trust place, on our way to Derbyshire.
The one we did at home was just eight clues for the boys to follow around the house and garden with a little egg at each one and then the last clue leading to the big eggs from us and the grandparents. It was really easy to set up but Toby and Gabe really enjoyed it… I guess I’ll have to do one every year now though!
We’re enjoying a last quiet day today before everyone is back at school and work tomorrow. I’m looking forward to a bit of peace and quiet, and a chance to get the house clean again, but I’m actually sad these holidays are over. And it’s made me realise that spending the whole summer holiday at home this year probably isn’t anything to be feared!

Your break sounds fab, and you certainly had the nice weather for it too. I saw your stories on the cable car it looked like fun. We did the Dunham Massey Easter trail too and a little one at home, I did notice there were a lot more being advertised this year x
Sounds like you had a lovely Easter. We always like going to a NT hunt, as they get a decent Cadburys egg at the end!
