Living Arrows 13/52 (2020)

Morning all! So how was week 1 for you? After I wrote just a week ago that we had come up with a vague timetable for our days it became clear after one day that it wasn’t really going to work for us!

With Toby in Year 2 and Gabe in Reception they are at such different levels and used to very different ways of working that it’s turned out to be very difficult to get them to do anything at the same time.

So, we’ve done a bit of the work that school have sent home, a few worksheets I printed out from Twinkl, we’ve watched some TV, played with Lego, done some drawing and colouring, and spent lots of time outside on the trampoline and scooting in the street.

On Wednesday it was my Dad’s birthday so we baked a cake and then had a virtual birthday party with my Mum, Dad and Brother using Zoom. It was good fun, we did a bit of maths with the baking, and we all got some cake so it was a win all round really!

It’s not all been plain sailing though – Thursday especially saw a lot of tears, from me and the boys. They had stayed up late to look at the stars through Daddy’s telescope the night before so they were tired, I was tired and I think that was the day it really hit me that we’re going to be doing this for quite a long time.

Friday was a better day though and we’ve had a relaxing weekend without any school work at all. It was nice to have Barry around all day because even though he is working from home, he works full time and we have an office upstairs so we don’t see much of him on weekdays.

The lovely weather we had last week seems to have disappeared this week so I don’t know if we’ll manage to spend quite so much time outside. This week’s pictures were taken yesterday afternoon when the boys were playing outside with Barry while I cooked our tea. They were playing with some planes my Dad bought them at an air show in France a couple of years ago. They weren’t very good at throwing them when we first got them but they’re really getting the hang of it now…

That’s all from me for this week. I hope you are all coping OK with the current situation and are staying safe and healthy.

This is my ninth year taking part in this linky celebrating childhood, based on a poem by Kahlil Gibran, “You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth” .

  1. It must be really hard trying to do this home learning stuff with kids of different ages – definitely easier in that way having two the same age! Sounds like you’re doing a fab job though 🙂

  2. 7 years! wow that impressive. I love the idea of a virtual party. My youngest is 5 shortly so we are going to attempt the same with him for that too.

    1. I’ve been struggling too but for other reasons. I hope this week went better for you? Those planes look like great fun. We are not sticking to a rigid timetable either. Just a list and once the list is done they can have fun. Hope you are staying safe and well

  3. I think its totally ok to just go with the flow and do what is best for our kids Some kids will love the routine, others not so much. It sounds like you are doing great! #LivingArrows

  4. I’m finding that I have one really hard day and then I get it out of my system and it’s easier. I can’t yet think about how long it will be. I was focused on getting to the Easter break and after Easter I can’t bare the thought of all those weeks until may half term. It feels like such a long time. One week at the time for me right now! x

  5. Its definitely been a rollercaster, with some days easier than others. I’m just hoping that people stay home, so this will end quicker x
