My likes and loves // #LittleLoves February 2018

OK, so I know we’re a week into March already but last month I started with these monthly likes and loves posts and I don’t want to give up just one month in! After January feeling like the longest month ever, February absolutely flew by. I know it’s a short month anyway, but with a week of half term in there too it felt like it was over before it started!

Without further ado then, here’s what I’ve liked, loved and done in February…

Read

I mentioned last month that one of my ’18 for 2018′ goals was to read at least 12 books and I am actually over half way there already!

In February I finished The Lake House by Kate Morton that I had started in January. I’ve read quite a few Kate Morton books and they always have stories that jump between different times – this one was set in the present day but also followed some of the characters through the first part of the 20th century too. I enjoyed the story, but it does require a bit of concentration to follow the different timelines, and unfortunately the ending slightly disappointed me by going one coincidence too far – but a good read nonetheless.

I followed up The Lake House with Meet Me At Beachcomber Bay by Jill Mansell. In contrast to The Lake House this one was a very easy read, requiring little in the way of concentration which is great for me when I often can only read a few pages at a time.

Next up was Saints of the Shadow Bible by Ian Rankin. This is one of the more recent Rebus novels – I think there’s one more after this (which I’ve just bought for my Kindle) and I’ve read all the previous ones too. I started reading Rebus books back in the early 2000s before I ever lived in Scotland, but it’s a lot more fun reading them now I know Edinburgh and the surrounding area quite well, because I as I read I can actually picture all the places where the action is taking place.

Lots of reading on my Kindle this month

I also read a couple more books (see I told you I was doing well!) about fasting and diet this month too. I read Feast without Fear, which is the follow up to Delay, Don’t Deny by Gin Stephens that I mentioned last month, and The Clever Guts Diet by Michael Mosely which is all about the fascinating microbiome.

Watched

I’ve still been watching Grey’s Anatomy but my viewing has slowed down now I’ve got back to episodes I remember more clearly than the earlier ones. This month I’ve also been enjoying Call the Midwife – I only started watching it a couple of series ago and I keep think I should go back and watch some of the earlier ones.

Oh, and I watched quite a lot of the Winter Olympics – I love the Olympics, both summer and winter. I think my favourite winter events were Big Air (those jumps are just bonkers), and the ski and bordercross.

Heard

After going to see The Greatest Showman last month I bought the soundtrack a few weeks ago. I don’t listen to music very often (and annoyingly our car doesn’t have any way to play music from my phone through the stereo) but I have been enjoying this one on and off.

Made

I’ve not been doing so well on my goal to try a new meal every month – I did make some blueberry and chocolate chip muffins in February which I don’t think I’ve ever made before. We had some fresh blueberries that were a bit past their best so I decided to use them up. We had some bananas going the same way last week too so they ended up in a banana loaf that Gabe helped me to bake.

The other thing I’ve made this month was Toby’s Mr Nosey nose for World Book Day. He decided he wanted to be Mr Nosey (he is obsessed with Mr Men books at the moment) and I was pleased because it was a nice easy one. Toby isn’t really a fan of dressing up so I wasn’t sure if he would actually wear the costume so I didn’t want to spend a lot of time or effort making it. So I got him some green leggings that were on offer, and a green hoodie (which was only £6 from Asda) – I didn’t mind spending a bit of money on things he could wear again. And then I made the nose out of a kitchen roll tube, and half a plastic ball that a toy came in out of those machines you always see at the supermarket. I glued it on the end of the tube with a few strips of newspaper, painted the whole thing green and popped some elastic on it.

Considering how little effort I put in I’m quite pleased with how it turned out really!

Wore

Umm, pass. I’ve not worn anything new or unusual this month. Just my usual mum uniform of jeans and stripey tops! I’ve just been eyeing up a few things in the Seasalt sale though, but I always feel guilty buying clothes for myself. Oh actually, I did get two new swimming costumes from Asda – I decided it was about time I stopped wearing my two-sizes-too-big maternity swimsuit, and they were only £12.50 so I got two!

And Lastly

Barry and I finally made it out on a date night at the start of February – the first time we’ve been out for a meal without the kids since I was pregnant with Gabe I think. I was a lovely meal, just a shame Gabe had woken up just before we got home and I ended up sitting up with him for hours trying to get him back to sleep! On the whole though his sleep is a lot better than it ever was so hopefully we’ll be able to manage a few more nights out in the not too distant future.

I think that’s all for this month – once again I’m linking up with Stevie’s Likes and Loves  and I’ll be back with another post of my #LittleLoves next month.

  1. I love that Mr Nosey costume and isn’t it brilliant when they choose something that doesn’t involve sewing for hours to want to dress up as?! We try and go out to do something as a couple every so often, for a start it means that we can eat in different places other than the few places the fussy eaters will agree to 😉

Thanks for joining in with #LikedandLoved again Sarah!

  2. Glad you had a lovely date night, so important aren’t they? Your boy’s WBD costume looks great! I’m the complete opposite with Call the Midwife, watched the first two seasons and haven’t watched an episode since! I just can’t find the time xx
